The oceans continuing life in cosmetics

The oceans continuing life in cosmetics

The ocean is considered the new cosmetic frontier, presently only 5% of the overall water surface has been explored, the experts believe that, in terms of evolution, seaweed molecules are more similar to those found in human beings than those found in plants. Fully aware of this is Biotherm which, sixty years ago, was the first to use a microorganism found in thermal springs, and specifically plankton.

One of the latest types of seaweed to grab the attention of the experts at L'Oreal of which Biotherm is part of the group,  the biotechnology centre in Tours is Laminaria Ochroleuca, known to the population of a tiny French island in the Atlantic Ocean, the ÃŽle de Sein Island, as calcogne-melenche, which is Celtic for yellow algae, the characteristic of this algae lies in its capacity to tighten and relax in the span of a few seconds to withstand the destructive power of the waves. By replicating this process, biologists succeeded in extracting from the algae the active principle that has the ability to improve skin firmness and is the powerful ingredient of Biotherm’s body cream Firm Corrector.

La Prairie has also been much interested in the theme so much so that, timed with the launch on new products of its Advanced Marine Biology line it created, in partnership with the Prince Albert II of Monaco Foundation, the La Prairie Award aimed at safeguarding the marine environment which is of paramount importance for cosmetic science and research. The three finalists are known: one of the projects aims at building a sanctuary to help save the monk seal, a second one has educational purposes and is concerned with teaching children in Indonesia to take care of the environment while the third project is aimed at conserving the Toliara reed complex in Madagascar. The winning project will be announced during a ceremony set to take place next October in London, though the two runners-up will also receive a monetary donation towards their initiative: $ 100,000 will go to the winner, $ 20,000 to the project placing second and 10,000 to the one placing third. Among the pioneers of marine cosmetics  La Mer whose great success lies in the intuition of founder Max Huber, an aerospace physicist who was overwhelmed by the astonishing regenerating ability of the sea kelp, a type of algae found on the shores of the Atlantic which is now one of the main ingredients of Miracle Broth the foundation of all the treatments created by the American cosmetic brand.

Spirulina Maxima is instead the ingredient of choice of the six products of Erno Laszlo’s Firmarine line. Spirulina is a fresh water micro-algae that contains almost 70% proteins and boasts high concentrations of beta-carotene, B vitamins, iron and rare fat acids such as the gamma-linolenic acids. It has lifting and tightening properties and enhances skin’s natural collagen production.

Embryolisse® at last in Australia used by top Makeup Artists

Embryolisse® at last in Australia used by top Makeup Artists

Last year at the MAKEUP SHOW NYC James Vincent presented all the bloggers with a blogger bag of products that were in high regard by the worlds top MUA. You could hear the terms of endearment in his voice as he presented  Embryolisse® from France, James said this was a staple in every professionals kit, which could only be brought in France so if you were going to Paris as a MUA you were bound to have countless orders to bring product back to the US.  Now Embryolisse® has arrived in Australia....I could not believe this when Scott  Lattimer sent an email telling me that his company Scotty's Makeup & Beauty had secured Embryolisse® for Australia. Scotty's Makeup & Beauty will be at the Sydney International Spa and Beauty Show from August 11 - 12th at the Sydney Convention & Exhibition Center.  There are two products you cannot leave the show without the first is  Lotion Micellaire (No Rinse Make-Up Remover) gently cleanses and removes make-up from skin and eyes. The formulation uses gentle cleansing agents (micells) and specific active ingredients to soften (Cornflower), soothe (Chamomile) and tone (Witch hazel). Skin is instantly rehydrated, softer and toned. Lait-Crème Concentrè (24-Hour Miracle Cream) is a rich moisturizing lotion. This specially formulated lotion is quite versatile; throw it in your travel bag when you don’t have enough space for numerous products. This creamy lotion is really three products in one: the make-up artists use it as a primer, moisturizer, and make-up remover. It also reduces irritation after shaving! Embryolisse® can be found at Scottys Makeup & Beauty 233 Broadway Glebe, NSW, 2037 T 612 9518 9000
Embryolisse® was formulated in the 1950’s by a physician who desired to create his own pharmaceutical skin care brand that met the expectations and acceptance of his profession.  With the use of progressive technology and the most up-to-date research regarding skin surface physiology and bacteriology, Embryolisse® Laboratories has improved the specific formulas for healthy and natural skin. This process led to the development of the Embryolisse product line, an innovative dermo-cosmetic that respects the natural balance and composition of the skin.

Embryolisse® was created with the understanding of the “natural barrier” properties of the skin. The formulas preserve the biological balance and assure anti-aging prevention. The simplicity of these formulations minimizes the risk of allergy and respects the natural balance of your skin.

Embryolisse® products help restore skin tone and elasticity while protecting your skin; leaving it smooth, gentle, and supple. All Embryolisse® products are based on active agents, which restore skin deficiencies and at the same time promote the “natural barrier” function that protects against free radicals.

The plant extracts and active ingredients used in Embryolisse® are recognized for their gentleness and tolerance. All products are tested under dermatological control for their effectiveness and safety.

FALL HAIR TRENDS + HOW TOs from Nicholas Penna, Jr.

FALL HAIR TRENDS + HOW TOs from Nicholas Penna, Jr.

We always enjoy getting news from Nick Penna, owner & lead stylist of Salon Capri (recently voted Best of Boston) Nick knows that with the popularity of the pixie cut over the summer, he has had many clients requesting an elongated version of the look as their hair has grown out. This longer spin on the pixie is hot for fall in the US with its bold cut and texture. Think Girl With The Dragon Tattoo meets fashionista Victoria Beckham to get a sense of this fierce but “posh” cut.   Additionally, Nick has given us the scoop on a coiled braided bun hairstyle that he loves for both a daytime and evening look. This slicked back style is the perfect transition into fall from the laid-back braids of summer.ELONGATED PIXIE1. Begin this look in the shower with a protein-spiked shampoo for extra strength and shine. Nick swears by Kerastase Nutritive Bain Satin Complete Nutrition Shampoo, which adds extra nutrients into your looks and leaves hair soft and shiny with a lightweight finish.

2. Before blowdrying, run a volumizer through your hair using your fingers. Nick likes Shu Uemura’s Fiber Life Protective Volumizer for natural shine, lasting support, and protection from heat and external agressors.

3. Use a round brush for the smoothest blow out. Nick’s tip: blow-dry small sections of hair, beginning at the back of your head. This section is always the dampest, so tackle it first and then move to the front.

4. This look is all about how you style the cut. As you grow out your pixie cut, ask your stylist to add extra texture, so you can play up your hair’s layers and angles with your blow-dry and brush.

5. To finalize this look, you’ll want to use a weightless spray to define and hold. Nick’s go to spray, Shu Uemura’s Sheer Lacquer Finishing Spray, won’t disappoint!
COILED BRAIDED BUN1. Starting this polished, sexy look is simple: carefully brushing out all the knots in wet hair. Nick recommends that this hairstyle is easiest to start on smooth, untangled hair. When you’re in the shower, apply a dime-size drop of your favorite conditioner so that when you go to comb your wet hair, it doesn’t get caught in knots and break easily.

2. Apply a shape paste or gel to towel-dried hair. This product will help to keep the style in place and stop pieces from falling out as you begin to create the look. Nick’s go-to is Shu Uemura’s Shape Paste.

3. Use the a paddle brush to pull hair back into a tight ponytail and secure with an elastic; you want to make sure that you don’t miss any loose pieces of hair.

4. Begin braiding the ponytail into a regular braid and secure with another elastic.

5. Coil the braided ponytail around the base of the ponytail to form the bun and secure with bobby-pins every ½ inch of hair. 6. To make sure that the look stays sleek-and-chic, Nick uses his favorite spray, L’Oreal Professionals Infinium 3 Strong Hold Working Spray, which keeps hair in place for a night out on the town!
